About My Blog
Critical Commonsense
These blogs are based on a modern interpretation of 17th Century Scottish Commonsense. This forgotten philosophical tradition includes clarification of basic theories of knowledge and critical realism. Realism is the belief that reality is what it is. The main thinker from that century was Thomas Reid. Our goals here are to use this "new" interpretation to develop fundamental critical thinking learning strategies to improve psychological development.

Improvements in psychology, to be sure, lead to improved performance in life. Stressing fundamental issues instead of common "self-help" issues that lack a critical background can be transformative if taught correctly. Most psychological theory is taught as psychology rather than from the beginning, as all things should., in philosophy. The roots of psychology are in philosophy and, in particular, the forgotten philosophy of early science and realism inherent in thinkers like Reid.
